National Rugby League Betting Preview – Round 1

March 11th, 2010

The best of Rugby League betting for 2010 kicks off this Friday night as the highly anticipated first round of the 13th NRL Premiership kicks off with a traditional derby match.

One of the best things about the start of the NRL season is making your footy bet! Make sure you visit who have the best range of Rugby League betting options and very competitive NRL odds.

Brisbane Broncos v North Queensland Cowboys

This time the opening match of round one features the Brisbane Broncos, with one of their youngest squads to date, versus the mighty North Queensland Cowboys.

The odds on both teams are close, with the Cowboys shortening to $1.97 from $2 in the past day and the Broncos sitting at $1.85 for a win with

Parramatta Eels v St. George Illawarra Dragons

Round one then continues with a sensational showdown set to take place between the 2009 minor premiers, St. George Illawarra, and the runners-up in the grand final last season, Parramatta. It will be a heated match where the Dragons will fight on without a number of their key players from last year, namely Wendell Sailor.

The Eels are sitting as the favourites at the moment at $1.65, but instead of just placing your standard head-to-head NRL bet why not try one of’s betting specials on the Eels v Dragons match; bet on the Eels to win by 1-12 points or for the two teams to draw!

Canterbury Bulldogs v Newcastle Knights

The first game on Saturday afternoon sees the Bulldogs play at home against the Knights. Early favourite for the wooden spoon this season, Newcastle have few claims in this match especially considering Kurt Gidley is out. Canterbury, who finished one game short of the grand final last season, looks set for a big round one win and the Rugby League betting odds on them to do so are currently $1.24.

But, if you are a big Knights fan and believe they can fight back then show the club your support and place a bet on them to win. Currently they are at $4.15 with so it could be a very lucrative outcome for the dedicated Knights supporter!

Penrith Panthers v Canberra Raiders

The fourth game of round one has the Panthers face off against the Raiders. Penrith and Canberra are two fairly equal teams this season, but Canberra won’t have Joel Monaghan playing for awhile yet and with the Panthers playing at home the Raiders are likely to have a tough time.

Penrith are currently at short odds of $1.38 for a win while the Raiders are paying $3.05 with

Cronulla Sharks v Melbourne Storm

Surely the Sharks must be the unluckiest team in the NRL. Cronulla had a nightmare season last year finishing 15th on the ladder while Melbourne reigned supreme again taking out the premiership.

Little to say about this match except good luck Sharks!

Of course Storm are the favourites at $1.50 but if you consider Cronulla have home ground advantage and a few new faces their generous odds for an upset might just be worth jumping on board for!

Gold Coast Titans v New Zealand Warriors

Titans are coming off a brilliant season in 2009, and with each year the NRL’s youngest club get closer and closer to that inevitable premiership win for the Gold Coast. It is hard to see the Warriors, who had a dismal season last year, beat the Titans at Skilled Park so it is easy to see why the Titans are at $1.33 and the Warriors at $3.35 in the Rugby League betting markets at [spotstbet].

But to add some ante to the match why not place one of’s great exotic Rugby League betting options such as the 1st Scoring Play or the Half Time Result.

South Sydney Rabbitohs v Sydney Roosters

Another round one match gaining lots of attention, with the Rabbitohs tipped to win this one by a big margin. It is no wonder when you look at the horrendous season the Roosters had last year.

Questions to consider though are, will South Sydney buckle under the pressure and will all the positive changes the Roosters have made make a difference?

If you believe the hype about how good the Rabbitohs will be on Sunday why not make some money off it and bet on South Sydney to win by 13 or more points!

Or, if you think the Roosters could fight back for a first round upset they are at generous odds for a win at the moment.

Wests Tigers v Manly Sea Eagles

The final game of round one playing out on Monday night is an interesting one where the Tigers face off against a Matt Orford-missing Manly.

Everything seems to lean towards Wests Tigers considering they are at home here, but their early season performances are not what they are known best for.

Have a look at Manly closely!
